How long does it take to install an EV Charging Station?

Mar 21, 2023

Did you know that nearly half of Canadians say they will buy an electric vehicle (EV) as their next vehicle? By owning and driving an electric vehicle, you can save money and help protect the environment. When purchasing an EV, there are a couple of extra steps to take when choosing and planning for installation of your EV Charging Station in your home. Let’s talk about how long it takes to install an EV Charging Station and the steps accompanying this task.

While the City of Vancouver has around 400 public charging station ports, only 58% of those ports offer free charges for your EV. Charging stations around the city may provide convenience when you are in a pinch, but truth be told, around 80% of EV drivers charge their cars at home. Charging your electric vehicle at home is often less expensive, and more convenient, than charging at a public charging port.

Types of EV Charging Stations

There are three levels of chargers: Level 1 EV Charger, Level 2 EV Charger, and Level 3, also known as a Fast Charger. Level 1 and Level 2 EV Chargers are predominantly used in homes, whereas Fast Chargers are used in businesses and common areas.

When you purchase an electric vehicle, you are usually supplied with an adapter to connect your EV to a 120-volt standard outlet, a Level 1 EV Charger. Level 2 EV Charging Stations connect to a 240-volt outlet, like those used by clothes dryers and ovens.

Many EV users choose to install a Level 2 EV Charger as it is more efficient at charging. As well they offer more flexibility, convenience, and offers potential cost savings.

Steps To Take To Install An EV Charging Station:
